yelp + kiva = ? Just an Idea.
Had to get an idea down before I passed out and forgot what I was thinking. I had a little free time today, just me and the pup over at Rodeo beach for the first time. It was good for the sanity I think. Anyway, whatya think about being able to invest in everything? Whatya think about a cross between kiva and yelp? I can’t afford to make real investments… say things over $100, or at...

Facebook should...
Just build a stupid forum. A local forum for every town.
I guess in terms of business I have no idea what they should do. Maybe they have local coupon plans or something but I wish I could see a local news site from them. They obviously play a huge part in distributing and making news these days but I would like to see a better way to have neighbors communicate and obviously Facebook could...
How about just the East Bay?
So it has been a while since I’ve done anything online, played with any websites, got a blog going or anything. I’m not even sure I actually want to anymore but I kind of just feel obligated to do so at this point.
At one point I had a WPMU site going to to try and get some public sites or forums for towns in my area. I actually had figured out how to import hundreds or thousands...

Just tried turntable.fm, the next jukebox
You should check it out when they get some more machines up and running to handle the demand. I hope some bars or cafes start using it so patrons can determine what is being listened to. It allows multiple users to play dj in a specified “room” so if you make a “room” for your workplace and play it around the building coworkers can dj and choose what plays live. It makes...
I'm back
I went away on a little trip with Maria and got out of the Bay Area for a couple weeks and now feel the need to update this site and perhaps even start using it more often.
I don’t think I will be too concerned with what exactly I post up here, I would rather try to just keep a running log of thoughts, ideas and projects whether personal or concerned with web stuff.

New Project - Umhai.com - Want to help?
I recently put together Umhai.com with the same software that Wordpress.com uses - wpmu. The tagline is “Let’s put threads everywhere” with the hope that you could create live threads for any place you could possibly want them. Places like cafes, libraries, dorms, office buildings and any other places people are often connected on their computers but cannot really communicate. I...

Community OWNED Newsroom Cafe?
So another thought on a local cafe as newsroom, as meetup spot, as collaborative space that I and others have been talking about recently. If it really is to be more of a community space or a collaborative environment and needs to be designed around the needs of web users then why don’t web users own and design it? Why don’t we get a few hundred of the people that are interested in the...

A new space. Take two.
Last week Dave Winer said he liked my post about the need for a new type of space in Berkeley. I thought I’d write an update to keep track of where my idea on this has been going.
We need a free, collaborative, publicly accessible space in Berkeley to host meetups. The problem is this is a new culture, a new way of organizing, a new way of interacting when together, and we don’t have...

CoWorking Possiblities for Berkeley and Elsewhere
While drinking coffees and dunking scones in grungy local cafes the last few weeks I started thinking about how there are so few places that really are built for the new connected world we are living in. Cafes and libraries are the only places that are filling the wireless needs of the unemployed, the self-employed, and college aged students by allowing them to access a signal and spend lots of...

Us Now Film and The Brower Center
I would like to see the Us Now Film but it has not come to the SF Bay Area yet.
I think the new Brower Center in Berkeley is the perfect place to show this movie and have at least a little chat about it and the issues it deals with. If anyone is interested in helping coordinate a little meetup with this film screening or perhaps a #gov20/transparency unconference then please get in touch...

Twitter Tools - real and not yet real
I thought I’d list a few more services I imagine I’d love to use with the ginormous sensation that is twitter. I’ve already gone on about the location based idea that is sort of a twitter craigslist with users being able to create threads for their favorite hangouts or where ever people congregate and are connected (cafes, malls, schools, stadiums, airports, etc.). A potential...

My Girlfriend and I spent 7 months traveling through Asia, took my mac and canon hv20 camera with us and we made this movie. We came back with about 30,000 images for this film and 30 hours of HD footage which we still have to sort out, so watch this space. Each shot is between 70 and 150 photos taken at intervals from anything between 3 and 60 seconds. I did...

Gene Lee Dancing Skateboarding Mystery
Last year sometime I saw this weird guy in an awesome pink outfit skateboarding up college ave near the Oakland Berkeley border. He was dancing and clapping, weaving through the stop and go traffic of a typical mid day weekend. I thought he was hilarious, talented, and for the 15 minutes or so that I got to enjoy his dancing, I thought he was everything that was great about the Bay Area.
Later he...

Oakland Shootings
I watched another violent breaking news story today. Four Oakland cops were shot, three were killed as was the suspect. I’m not sure when I originally got the news but it was sometime early this afternoon and actually from the SFgate.com which is somewhat amazing. I then started following it on twitter and the feeling I got was horrible. It was similar to the way I felt after watching the...

4 Hire
Lately a couple of things have become apparent.
All I read and seem to think about is web trends, strategies, policies, business models, social impacts, startups, applications, etc. etc.
Plenty of people and organizations need help understanding how to expand their web presence and make better use of the potential on the tubes.
So, I’ll go ahead and say that I’m open for business....
